When Time Runs Out

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Christopher Chelpka

The word of the Lord came to me, andyou, O son of man, thus says the Lord God to the land of Israel an end. The end has come upon the four cornersof the land. Now the end is upon you and I will send my anger upon you. Iwill judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all yourabominations and my eye will not spare you. Nor will I have pitied, but I willpunish you for your ways. While your abominations are in your midst, then you will know that I'm, the Lordthus says the Lord God disaster after disaster. Behold, it comes an end hascome, the end has come, it has awakened against you behold, it comes. Your doomhas come to you, O inhabitants of the land. The time has come. The day isnear a day of Tumult and not of joyful shouting on the mountains. Now I willsoon pour out my wrath upon you and spend my anger against you and judgeyou according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations. My eye will not spare. Nor will I havepity I will punish you according to your ways. While your abominations arein your midst, then you will know that I am the Lord who strikes behold the day. Behold it comes yourdoom has come, the Rod has blossomed pride. Has budded. Violence has grownup into the rod of wickedness; none of them shall remain nor their abundance, nor their wealth. Neither shall there be Pre Eminence among them. The timehas come. The day has arrived, but not the buyer rejoice nor the cellar Mornfor wrath is upon all their multitude for the seller shall not return to whathe is sold while they live for. The vision concerns all their multitude, but shall not turn back and because of his iniquity, none can maintain hislife. They have blown the trumpet and madeeverything ready, but none goes to battle, for my wrath is upon theirmultitude. The sword is without pestilence and famine are within. Hewho is in the field dies by the sword and him who is in the city, famine andpestilence devour, and if any survivors escape they will be on the mountains.Like doves of the valleys, all of the moaning each one over his iniquity, all hands are feeble and all kneesturned to water. They put on sack, cloth and horror, covers them, shame ason all their faces and baldness on all their heads. They cast their silverinto the streets and their gold is like an unclean thing. Their silver and goldare not able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord, they cannotsatisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it, for it was thestumbling block of their iniquity, his beautiful ornament, they used forpride and they made their abominable in images and their detestable things ofit. Therefore, I make it an unclean thing to them, and I will give it into the hands offoreigners for prey and to the wicked for the earth of for spoil, and theyshall profane it. I will turn my face from them and they shall profane mytreasured place. Robbers shall enter and Profane it for a chain for the land is full ofbloody crimes, and the city is full of violence. I will bring the worst of thenations to take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the prideof the strong and their holy places shall be profaned. When anguish comes, they will seek peace, but there shall be none. Disaster comes upon disaster, rumor, fallers rumor. They will seek a vision from a prophet while the lawperishes from a priest and counsel from the elders, the king, morns, theprinces wrapped in despair and the...

...hands of the people of the land areparalyzed by terror. According to their way, I will do to them and according totheir judgments, I will judge them, and they shall know that. I am the Lord. He may be see it. Satan is a liar and he tries to trick us. He tries to deceive us, even as he'sbeen doing from the very beginning, he tries to make us think that sin isnot a big deal. It's a little thing, it's a you can look over it. He tries to makeus think, and our sinful flesh does the same, that the consequences of notgetting what we want are worse than the consequences of judgment, for the thingthat we're about to do. We think well sure God doesn't like this or sure Imight get in trouble, but you know God is merciful and boy. I really need this thing. I really want this thing or I don't wantthat thing or whatever it is, but the scriptures tell us to be soberminded about these things, to be clear, headed to be awake, to be understanding to see things asthey really are to know sin as it really is. Peter tells us your adversary. TheDevil prowls around, like a roaring lion. Seeking someone to be devoutseeking some one to devour so be watchful, be sober. Minded, lookout, pay attention, one of the ways that God helps us dothat is through this majestic and powerful Act of judgment that hebrings in time and space upon his very own people, the people of Israel in Sal. Eighty three, we sang a song inwhich the people of Israel First Sang calling for protection against theirenemies. Protection against these. These people that worship, false godsagainst people that were seeking to hurt the Lord's treasures, ones, steelup his pastures, take what they wanted. Then Ja do not be silent, protective OGod, and indeed he did many times, but he also warned his people evenbefore he brought them into the promised land that if they acted likethe people that he was judging, they too would be judged. He told them was over and over and overagain he warned them of their sin over and over and over again- and now it's too late here at this moment, when I ekil ispreaching: It's not repent and there is still time it's all done. The time is up. Doom is at hand. Behold the day is nearand there are times that he's Ekil even speaks in the present tense of things that are happening even atthat moment. So close is the event, and indeed, even in this book, we will seethat these prophecies of judgment and of doom coming upon Israel will befulfilled in ICEL lifetime...

...and it's awful or to put it another way, the wages ofsin which is death is off. We read, for example, in versus fifteen through eighteen, adescription of this sword without pestilence and famine within he. WHO's in the field dies by thesword, and he who is in the city, famine and pestilence devour, as theLord raises up his own enemies to conquer his people because of theirdisobedience because of their sins. He tells them what's going to happen. These armies will come down upon them and it will be awful. Those who die will die by the sword andif they don't die this by the sword, they will die of famine and pestilenceand if they don't die that way and they escape in in the mountains, they willbe there mourning and crying out over their iniquity it'll be awful and versus twenty oneand twenty two he says I will give into the hands of foreigners for prey.Israel will be like a hunted animal and to the wicked of the Earth forspoil and they shall profane it. God will take the things that he hasdeclared to be wholly things, that the people have trusted in things that thepeople have have been told where this is where God will meet you and theseforeigners will come in and they will ransack it and they will steal thingsand they will profane the things of God versus twenty three through twenty sixdescribe this more, the profaning of holy places, the puttingan end of pride of the strong in verse, Twenty Five- He says: Whenanguish comes, they will seek peace and there will be none they're going toolook for help and there won't be help. They will look for peace and therewon't be peace disaster upon disaster, rumor uponrumor and all of the places where previously they had been able to findhelp their leaders, nothing they'll seek a vision from the Prophetwon't be there they'll go to the priest to ask him to teach them, teach us thelaw. We're ready now tell us what it says. It won't be there they'll go to the elders for counselfor rule, nothing they'll go to their king he's mourning the prince he'sclothed in sackcloth. They go to the head of the WHO's left, the people andall their hands are shaking in terror, as the Lord's judgment reigns upon hispeople. One of the things we learn about thejudgments of the Lord when it comes is that it's awful and it's the end. We are also told in his equil seventhat it is fair, multiple times. He explains this, for example, in verses, eight and nine. He says soon. I will pour out my wrath upon you and spend myanger against you and judge you. According to your ways,I will punish you for all your abominations in verse, nine. He says my eye will notspare no oral. I have pity I will punish you according to your ways, while your abominations are in yourmidst. It's like, while cane, is standing overhis brother with blood on his hands. God will come in judgment and judge him according to his ways. According to theblood that is right there on his hands, as the abominations are in the midstthere, the false idols, the temples, the priests, everything that they havebuilt up around them all the ways in...

...which they have forsaken. The Lordit'll all be right. There, the evidence just strewn across the land of the waysthey had have gone away from God, and it will be fair and all the things that they oncedepended upon money, the fulfillment of theirpassions, the making of fine jewelry and cultureand the lifting up of false gods. All of it will be empty. None of it willsave them. This is all not only fair, but it'sdescribed in some ways as a a natural kind of progression it has appeared. The time has come:it's not random. It's not just happening to them. It's tied veryspecifically to their sin, as judgment always is in verse. Ten we read, theRod has blossomed pride. Has budded. Violence has grown up into a rod ofwickedness brothers and sisters. This teaches usthat sin leads somewhere. We can say it's fair in terms ofjudgment and penalties right. The wages of Sin de the fair repayment for sin isdeath, but it's also has this this. It is alsothe natural or an organic outgrowth of these things when pride buds it budsinto judgment. That's what happens when people stand in their security oftheir money and their power on the false gods and all the ways on whichthey separate themselves from God and which they flee from him in which theyhate you. This buds into judgment this day is not a surprise. It is whatwas expected. It was what was promised and it will be complete. The peoplewill be ready for war. It says they will be ready of the T, e t etheir swords in their hands here, I'm quoting or paraphrasing verse fourteenthey have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but none goes thebattle. All the armies there, everybody's readyhere they come, let's go get them and nothing happens, but a slaughter. Why judgment? Because this thing that ishappening is not just some nation rising against some nation. This isGod's. Just punishment of his people for their sins and they will turn to solutions leaders as we mentioned another thingstoo, and it will be nothing their silver and gold. The scripturessay will do them. No good even will become an unclean thing even to day a people put so much hopein their money when they think about the worst things that could happen. You'llsee commercials right by gold, big it'll, take care of everything who knows. Maybe you'll get you througha little thing here and there, but it's not going to take care of this. It'snot going to take care of Judgment of God in Heaven The straits are pavedwith gold. He doesn't care about gold, the money and the things that we clingto. They are nothing they will not save us. They will not help us because nothing is stronger. Nothing ismore powerful than the Lord and, as I said in the beginning,...

...all this that was about to happen toIsrael all this that did happen to Israel and you can read my lamentationsof what exactly it sounds like when the judgment of the Lord has come. Can read in the psalms and read andother places of how terrible these things are, but these things are given for a very specific purpose, to tell Israel to teach Israel and thewhole world, including US exactly what sin deserves and the greater judgmentthan this that is coming when the Lord Jesus returns as awful as this is. Itis a picture. It is just a picture, a small scale model of the cosmicjudgment God will bring on the last day. If this is bad. What is coming is far worse turn with me. If you will to MatthewChapter Thirteen, where Jesus speaks of this matthew, thirteen versus thirty sixthrough forty three, then the crowds, then he left thecrowds and went into the house and his disciples came to him saying explain tous the parable of the weeds in the field. He answered the one who sews the good seed is theson of man. The field is this world and the good seed is the sons of thekingdom. The weeds of the weeds are the sons of the evil one and the enemy haswho sewed them as the devil. These, let me pause previously. He saidthat these things in this age are growing up together. These two sons, sons of the evil, one and sons of the Lord, these two plants, the good seedand the bad seed growing up together. Continuing on now in verse, Thirty NineJesus says the harvest is the end of the age and the reapers are the angels, just as the weeds are gathered andburned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age, the son of Man willsend his angels and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sinand all law breakers and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that placethere will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shinelike the sun in the Kingdom of their father. He who has ears, let him hear so. I preach these things to you thisevening, not just to scare you or get a reaction out of you or impress you insome way. I say to them to you as your pastor and friend. This is what is coming. This is the word of the Lord. These lies about sin that we believethese ways in which we down play, in which we think they're no big deal. They are a big deal. After all, our Lord Jesus Christ diedfor them. The Lord of Heaven and earth took onhuman flesh and came into the world and died a horrific death. Because of these sins they are notlittle. They are not little. The Lord tells us these things so that, as he says, we shall know that he is the Lord...

Hebrews Nine twenty seven says man isdestined to die once and then comes judgment. Paul tells us that the wagesof sin is death and all have fallen short of the glory of God, and so howwe take these passages in these reminders of the judgment of God allcomes down to this one thing: Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ, inthe forgiveness of your sins? Are you one who can say to the worldand before God himself, there is no judgment on me because I have beenforgiven. My sins, some of you to night may not know theLord. Some of you to night may still be inyour sins, may still be clinging to them. Theystill think well, it's a way away. I've got time, it's not a problem. Some of you may be presuming on themercy of God. He's merciful he'll. Just forgive me. He won't forgive you not. If you wait until the Lord Jesusreturns on the Day of Judgment, he tells us there will be no more time atthat time. He's already showed us in time in history that, when judgmenttime comes it's over, it's done no more peace, no more waiting, no more hopenor more promises over. Don't presume that God's just going tokind of kick it down the road he won't, he won't, and so, if you are still in your sins, know that this is where you are heading and perhaps sooner than you realize Jesus says we don't know the hour whenhe will turn. We don't know the time when he will come, and so let this be awarning to you to flee to Jesus Christ. I said God Will Not Be merciful and Imeant at the end in the Day of Judgment, but God is Merciful and he's beingmerciful right now to day. So, while it is still called today, don't harden your hearts here of the judgment of God here what'scoming here. What's rightfully do for your sins and cling with all your mightto Jesus and know that, as you do so he'sclinging to you in love that he's holding you fast and he willnot let you go and that's the thing that some of us, perhaps some others ofus, need to remember. Perhaps some of us who do know the loveof God who have been rescued out of a dominion of darkness and Judgment andsin and brought into a kingdom of light and salvation have kind of forgottenthis a little bit. Perhaps some of us, even those of uswho have been rescued, have been blinded by the things of this world alittle too familiar with our sins. A little too enraptured by the things nowunder the sun and need to be reminded exactly what we have been saved from you have been saved from Hell itself, give praise to God and don't walk anymore in the ways of the old man. Don't walk any more in the ways of sin: Don'twalk any more in the ways of that old life and that old, sinful self instead enjoy your freedom. Shine with the glory of God, know what it is. He has rescued fromrescued you from and give him praise. God Has Been Merciful with us even tothe point...

...of death, even to the point of Hims, taking thisjudgment described in Ezekial seven, the judgment described in Matthew, thirteen and more than we really, I think, can even imagine and he's put iton his own son, and he did it for you because he loves you, protect your life and you're going to lose it, but let it go and the things of thisworld for the sake of following the Lord and you will gain everything. May God be gracious to us here to day? May we cling to him and no, let's pray together, O Lord God. Weknow that you are mighty in your wrath. We know that you do not simply bark andnot pretend that when it comes to those whom youlove, those whom you have set your protecting power on, you do nottolerate sin, you do not tolerate evil even in them, and you will put it to death and wethank you for that because or it is we consider the sin is in us as weconsider the flesh that wages war against the spirit, how much we hate it. How much we hate the way it pulls usaway from you the way it destroys our lives. The way it tears us, apart fromon your love and those whom you've called us to love. Oh Lord, put it to death, put it todeath in US wage war against the fleshly nature in us. May It becrucified that we might not know it any more. Lord. Do this work in us on even untothe Day of Judgment when we will become perfect and we will shine like the sun in theKingdom of you or father perfectly protected for ever and everfrom the evil, one from all those who would seek to do usand you harm Lord. We look forward to that placewhere there is no weeping, no gnashing of teeth where there is no sorrow, even but only joy, everlasting, pleasure, fellow love and worship of you, the onetrue God, Father Son and Holy Spirit, give us ears to hear give us hearts tobelieve and let us lose our lives and lose them gladly for the sake offinding them again in Christ. Jesus our Lord Lord. We pray for those who are lost. We pray particularly for Larry's friend, whom he's here, especially to visit to speak, to to call and to call torepentance and Lord.
